Do You Act Like A Business Owner?

I know, when you’re working at home or juggling conference calls around carpools and play dates, it’s hard to feel like a true part of the workforce. But to be a successful owner, you have to act like one. Here are some simple ways to act like a business owner that can dramatically change how you feel about yourself and your business. You’ll exude greater confidence and purpose in no time which can all lead to more business, larger contracts and higher rates.

Create an ‘office’ space:

No matter how small or creative it may be, you should carve out a dedicated area for your business. This will help you reach a better life-work balance. In addition, you can look for nearby collocated or collaborative office space, where you can rent a desk, office, or conference room by the hour or day.

Form an LLC or Inc:

An LLC (Limited Liability Company) or Corporation protects your personal assets from any liability of the company. If your business happens to be sued, your personal assets (i.e. property, savings accounts) are shielded from any judgment.Adding an LLC or Inc. (for a corporation) after your company name also boosts your company's credibility in the eyes of some customers and partners. And in some cases, it can even reduce your overall taxes.

Open a business checking account:

If you formed a corporation, you’re legally required to keep your personal and business finances separate. But even if you’re a sole proprietor, it’s good practice. All business expenses and income are automatically organized, and who couldn’t use that come tax time?

Invest in things what will help you do your job better:

Don’t hold the purse strings too tightly when it comes to those expenses that could help you be more productive and satisfied from day to day. Upgrade your technology. Attend a conference or networking event where you can make valuable contacts or learn new skills.

Hone your elevator pitch:

The waiting room at the pediatrician or the line at your local café can offer potential networking opportunities.Be ready for any opportunity that comes your way by having a straightforward, compelling, and confident answer to the inevitable question, "What do you do?".  You never know where your next big client, customer, or partner might be.

Believe in yourself

Most importantly, believe in yourself. Believe in your creativity. Believe in your determination. You can make wonderful things happen...for your family, your community, your customers and the economy.
