Many of us entrepreneurs are operating on a tight schedule, with barely a moment to ourselves, let alone time to think about mindfully moving our bodies. Yet neglecting our physical health, however busy we are, can have serious consequences.
If you feel despair at the idea of fitting in a yoga class or anguished by the thought of an unused gym membership, then read on to discover how you too can painlessly fit exercise into your busy life.
Rushed Off Your Feet?
If you’re literally feeling like you’ve been rushed off your feet by the end of every hectic day, then the last thing you want to be thinking about is exercise. Nevertheless, raising your heart rate and working up a healthy sweat can actually help to banish those worn-out feelings. Rest is vitally important for maintaining a healthy body and mind, but before you sink into the sofa, think about doing some end-of-the-day activity first.
A 10 minute HIIT workout in the living room, or a quick run around the park will leave you feeling rejuvenated and could lead to better sleep later on. A short burst of exercise at the end of the day can help get rid of any built up stress and will leave you in a much better mood to enjoy your evening. Try an app, like Nike or Sweat for motivation and easy access to great workouts.
A Sedentary Lifestyle
Alternatively, get your exercise in whilst you’re working! This is perhaps the best method for those who are looking to limber up and increase flexibility, and it can be the perfect way to maintain fitness levels at a time when most jobs are becoming increasingly sedentary.
For those whose profession has them sat at a desk all day, it can be difficult to fit in any sort of significant exercise. The best advice? Start small but stick with it. There are plenty of easy but effective yoga poses that you can do whilst seated, which have the potential to positively affect your posture, health and even productivity. Alternatively, stand up and take a walk around your office space with extra points if you can include a set of stairs; it might not sound like much, but it’ll still stimulate your cardiovascular system. If your body feels happy, then you'll feel happier and be in a better position to work hard.

Home Alone
On those rare occasions when you have the house to yourself, postpone that hot bath or curling up on the sofa until you’ve ‘treated’ yourself to a thorough workout. Making the most of the time that we have is essential for enjoying a happy and fulfilled life, and for being successful in our business endeavours. Approach your physical health in the same way that you would a project or deal: exercise is not something to do ‘if you have the time’, but rather a vital part of your agenda. And that relaxation time will feel extra delicious after you’ve put your body through its paces.
Make sure to pick an exercise that you really enjoy for these times and adjust your mindset to see the activity for what it really is: a way of looking after yourself.
‘Running’ Errands
Similar to fitting exercise in whilst you’re working, another convenient method is to turn your errand running and household tasks into a workout all of their own. Tasks like vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing and ironing can all be utilized as a way of moving your body in a healthy way, as well as walking or running to the shops rather than taking the car. Carrying shopping bags - on your back and in your hands - provides the opportunity for some weight training - not to mention unpacking them all when you get home.
Just as you’d get creative in your personal life and at work, apply the same approach to fitting in a workout wherever you can. Besides, the creative element makes it all the more fun and adds something cerebral to the activity - engaging your mind is a great idea if you want to avoid boredom or lethargy. Instead, it’ll leave you excited for the next workout idea.
